India's 20-20 world cup triumph
by shiladitya dasgupta on Sep 25, 2007 08:47 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

More than individual brilliant performances, what is significant is the team work and the pride to play for the nation that MSD's boys showed. VERY IMPORTANT:- There was no Chappell around to constantly point a finger and crib and above all no big stars to grind the ax against each other. The way they went around with the national flag after winning the match shows how much they enjoyed playing for the nation. This pride went missing six months back, the seniors were jaded, played too much cricket, only thing that mattered to them was money and sponsorships, NOT THE NATION. This win is a clear signal that the big three: Sachin, Rahul and Saurabh should step down from ODI's. Their presence will spoil the team spirit that we saw. Sachin for all his greatness never came good when India needed his services most, he had no business in failing against Bangladesh, such greatness sounds hollow & is only for records. The nation still remembers Kapil Dev, Gavaskar for '83 triumph, not Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly. Its high time these 3 hang up their boots for Nation's sake, India doesn't need them.

It's a great thing that happened to indian cricket. I believe instead of getting too much carried away with this and resting/dropping all three seniors, BCCI should take an ideal solution. I would like to see in every match one of three trios taking rest to allow the youngsters to get enough chances in 50-50.

These are my ideal replacements for each of them.

1. Rohit Sharma for Rahul Dravid.
2. Gambhir for Saurav Ganguly.
3. Uthappa/Karthik for Sachin.

Only player of this team that I believe needs to learn a lot is Sreesanth. He needs to control his tempo, he looks like Zaheer during his early years.

Hi buddy this only 20-20 match
if a player wants to play 50 overs match he must keep his nerves to play. A young player cant play all 50 over without much experience Rahul, Saurav and Sachin are the players who have vast experience and more than 30,000 runs under theire belt dont ignore them. There are the players who have lift the game of cricket in INDIA.

20-20 win and Indian sports
by Ganesh Parameswaran on Sep 25, 2007 08:42 AM  Permalink

While the young Indian team deserves every cheer and encouragement, I have one worry. Such a victory for Indian cricket team could be bad news for other sports in India. Myophic and stupid as they are, the Indian media, government, corporates and sponsors would end up ignoring other sports and sportsmen and sportswomen. It has already happened. It could happen again. God save Indian sports even as He blesses Indian cricket.

Each man chipped in with great performance to win the cup. The never-say-die spirit helped Dhoni's boys to snatch victory when the match seemed lost. Chak de!
