Are the selectors setting up Dhoni??
by Spitting Cobra on Sep 19, 2007 03:31 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Are the canny Indian selectors setting up Dhoni by making him the captain??
If he fails with the bat, his keeping is not good enough to merit a place in the team!!
Are there vested interests that want to push him out and make Dinesh Karthick the keeper in the long run??

There is no other plausible explanation for bypassing Yuvraj and handing ovet the captaincy on a platter to Dhoni!!
Yuvraj made his debut in 2000 and MSD made his in 2005!!
This seems highly bizarre to me!! If you don't want one of the old brigade to captain the ODI side, you coulds atleast have gone with Yuvi or Sehwag or Harbhajan!!
This might be the beginning of the end for Dhoni!!
Cos if the intentions of the selectors were really noble, they would not have had Karthick in the team, snapping at the heels of Dhoni!!
Anyday, you would want to go with an extra batsman like Rohit Sharma or Raina or even go with an allrounder like Yousuf Pathan or Joginder Sharma!!
The selection of Karthick furtehr reinforces my thinking process that MSD is being set up nicely!!
The day is not far off when he will be branded as a pure 20-20 cricketer!! With Karthick donning the gloves in Tests and Uthappa in ODIs!!

Mr.Spitting Cobra, Please this straight into your head. Yuvi was not given captaincy coz of deciplinary actions. Sehwag and Harbajan are not permanent members in the team so they cant be given.

Will you give captaincy to someone who is not certain to play in the team

I think i need to ram a few facts into your head!!!!
First of all don't assume that MSD is a certainty for a long time!! things change very fast in Indian cricket!!
Secondly, it is a question of who is more deserving and on that count, Yuvraj singh is much more deserving than MSD, simply due to his greater experience at the highest level!!
If at all Yuvraj has not been given the captaincy for some disciplinary reason, then it is one more indication of the unprofessional approach of the BCCI!!
If Yuvi has certain disciplinary issues related to his interntaional career, then it can be understood, denying him the captaincy just cos of a few trangressions in his personal life is carrying it a bit too far!!

Hey idiot, do you know why flintoff was dropped from captaincy. Its just the same reason why yuvraj did not become captain

BCCI is crap, but i must admit that finally they showed the courage to drop useless agarkar and unfit Munaf Patel! Seriously, Indian cricket is going nowhere with unfit guys and guys like Agarkar who are clearly over the hill.....

I bet you the reason was "a few trangressions in his personal life". Although he probably was a deserving candidate, such personal thing gets in to the account. This is just because he is going to lead the Indian national team.

Greg Chappel's return
by MB on Sep 19, 2007 03:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mr. Chappel has been called as a consultant for Rajasthan cricket board and this fellow cannot resist Indian Cricket's temptation. Wait and watch, he will become BCCI president one day because of his long experience in India and Unanimously elected by the BCCI jokers

Hi will run a lot!

Already a mediocre keeper, his keeping will nosedive because of all thoughts of bowling changes and field placing distracting him and also all the running he has to do to chat to the bowlers of they get hammered. Great tamasha this will be, watch out India..oops team Pawar getting fined regularly for taking too much time to bowl their quota and the spike in extras :)

You are absolutely right! Great observation!! Same happened to England when Alec Stewart was the captain!! His keeping became shoddy and his batting nosedived to county levels...

And look at his batting, he has now started playing like Chetan Chauhan ... good tamasha to watch .. Dravid will have the last laugh.. Ian Chappel has suggested VVS laxman for test captain. I strongly recommend him because he is unemployed for a long time.. at least this will keep him in full employment..

and now India has a great run-out master .. Dinesh Karthik .. If anybody is tired batting just give him a shout.. He will come halfway down the pitch and then run back to the same crease he came from.. Poor fellow he is worried about his career .. ONce out of the team ..It is unemployment time for the rest of his career

No Coach, No Captain, 75 year old Manager, A hapless team in the 20-20 tournament.. Even Bangladesh has lifted its level a few more notches.. A Board which puts a wrong email id; in its advertisement for coach.. A selector without a pay ... The most unprofessional cricket board in the world ... Any hopes for the future

Worst team and worst selection. I don't why they select same players for years and years. Many people who are in the team are complaining about schedule. Why they don't introduce proper rotation policy to give chance to younger players. We were watching this same kind of team for many years and they are doing any miracles. If we look at the overall wining rate its always below 50% matches what they played. So why don't they give chance to young players. Wining and loosing doesn't make any difference as it is not making any difference since many many years.

Since 1990 We gave atleast 100 youngsters chance of being in the team. But no one ever was able to hold on to their place. Thats why we have to depend on those 3 alone.

The richest cricket body doesn't have a website of its own. No new stadium of note has come up recently. The domestic circuit has seen no innovation and nothing has been done to attract crowds to the domestic games. Even Twenty20 originated in England, despite India being the so called cricketing whorehous!

I agree with your views. Politicians like Pawar are heading the BCCI for its great wealth.. Will this guy ever head the hockey federation ?? Of course he can bring the BCCI to the levels of hockey federation .. It really pains the millions of cricket supporters like you and me.

Why Sachin, Dravid and Ganguly remain in team. BCCI should set a age limit. Let the old folks spend time with their wife and kids.
