This is a piece of GEM
by sandeep sulakhe on Oct 11, 2007 07:02 PM  Permalink

I think Gavin has just gave away the secrets of Australian locker room - how to beat the Aussies in their own game of sledging. I think BCCI should take a print out of this article and circulate among all the players.Seriously.
I don't really support Goras going against Indians, but this guy has written sense.

Gavin Robertson's quip on sledging.
by Mambakkam Subramanian on Oct 11, 2007 03:35 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Yes! Your nasty behaviour on field will not rub off on these Australians as they are the SOBs in regular practice and even in their domestic cricket the same thin g goes on. Today Ponting may appear to be shielding or supporting Symonds or any other team mate. But when they play against each other in their domestic cricket the same Ponting may be mouthing unprintable comments about the same Symonds or any other team mate in the test squad.

It is unfortunate that the gentlemen's game has degenerated to these levels. The only thing right to do would be for the ICC to tighten up the conduct rules and put up filed mikes in each player's helmet or collar and record the conversations thropugh out the match. This should be done to [protect the decencies of the game fail;ing which a suituation may develope like the Zinadine Zidane and Materazzi case in the Soccer World Cup. Only thing would be that the batsmen will not butt the opponent with his head, he will bash him up with his bat. If no action is taken by ICC early then only ICC will be responsible for any death or injury to any criceter due to assaul;t by a fellow criceter with a bat. Remember the Denis Lillee- Javed Miandad incident.

I fail to understand this crrok in the Australian psych as other wise they appear to be fairl;y decent blokes compared to the Pommies.

talking abt safety in sports lets make sure that boxers are padded up from head to toe to avoid getting killed by lethal blows. lets also make sure F1 car engines are replaced with 100 cc engines of our local bikes to reduce high speed fatal car crashes. lets also give chest pads to footballers so that they can take the head butts from all the matterazzis of the future and lets play cricket with plastic bats so we dont crack each other's heads. lets have 100 meter marathons instead of a kilometer lest we die of dehydration and sun strokes.

common dude... aggression and dangers are all part of any sport - which is what makes them the most popular events around the world.

Well, The fact so many aussies, even the ones not involved in the game are talking...Ponting and Symonds openly critising means that they are annoyed.

Gavin who??
by AJ on Oct 11, 2007 06:27 AM  Permalink

Oh he is the same gavin robertson who came to India in 1998 played only 4 tests (L2 W1 D1) and 13 ODI (L5 W7 including 2 with zimbabwe) in his career. Is he the one who's bowling average is much more than batting average.
Oh poor Gavin, good article but why rediff why. Why did you choose Gavin to write for you on Australian dressing room tactics when he himself part of very small or infact none of the winning combination.
Good thoughts by Gavin but not well articulated.
For rediff: I am a frequent reader of articles by cricketers but please make sure they have credibility.

There are certainly quite a few things that we (i mean indians in general and cricketers in particular) can learn about playing within the spirit and being professional. So till then take it easy and please keep your sunny-deol-style-filmy jingoism to your restroom.

Hello Mr Robertson,

I don't know why Australians consider themselves self proclaimed Masters of mental game? Your problem is you are sore losers although you are the best team in the world for a decade you can not take loosing sportingly. Your guys should have played against the 70s West Indies team, they just played w/o all the talk.
I think Aussies are jealous of money which Indians get and the way they get admired in this country, I am sorry you wont ever get that, A case of sour grapes I think.

You may win but you don't have the grace.

Lets wait and see
by on Oct 11, 2007 12:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let's wait and see who emerges victorious in the series. Lotsa teams have tried the "Aggresive Approach" against the Aussies. It was South Africa first, then Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England etc.. But the fact remains none of these teams have consistenly beaten the Aussies. It seems all the teams on the rise try to outsmart the Aussies. India after the T20 win is the latest to try it. And we wont have to wait long to see the results of the same. We will be playing most of our cricket - at home and away (tests, ODI's, and also a few T20's) against the Aussies in the next six months. As an Indian I hope we win most of these, but my cricketing brain does not agree.

Sledging
by Ranjan on Oct 10, 2007 11:39 PM  Permalink

Dear Gavin Robertson,
Your analysis of psychology is remarkable. But please know that after Gavaskar walked off field with Chetan Chauhan years ago, this is the first time team India's youth have decided to lock horns. Your advice, well-meant, will make Indians seem unduly timid. If Cuban boxers throw punches, you must land a few ,too. You'll lose, but know that you hit hard, and made them wince. The time for niceties in sports is gone. Competition and victory at all cost mean the range from drugs (Marion Jones) to sledging. Remonstrance is the order of the day. Hand of God and Head-Butting are there for all to see. Some get punished, most, like the Aussies, get away with It. , Indians are no exception to these trends.

It IS annoying the aussies
by Ankit kumar on Oct 10, 2007 10:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The latest news is that talking back is indeed annoying the aussies. Australian media is full of stories demonizing Sreesanth and, surprise of all surprises, Australian captain wants the officials to intervene!!

The fact is, Australians players cannot take the same crap they throw at others. If India manage to win a few along with continuing with the verbal fire, Australians will be rattled. They are the large bullies who run away when you decide to stand up to them.

And thats how Aussies win?
by Abhijeet Tale on Oct 10, 2007 10:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Thats pathetic. If thats how they get batsmen out, God mercy them. A little talk back from our young men and they have already started noticing!

And its rubbish talk when you say Aussies dont talk to batsmen directly. Not only do they talk nonsense directly to opposition batsmen but they point fingers too!

Yes we have the richest administration and by whose mercy cricket is still alive and doing well. Your ex-players are employed by us.

The whole world know Aussies are the worst behaved team by all standards. Dont talk too much your time is up MATE.

You are right! Aussies are not that smart people in the game. It's a joke that Aussies don't talk directly to the batsmen!! If Sree does the same thing, all started to point their fingers. C'mon dudes, Accept the fact, we are winning games now because our present team got some aggression!! Country's own people are not comfortable to this fresh change! which is even more worse
