umpire also be fined
by Rahul on Nov 20, 2007 09:12 AM  Permalink

i agree if umpire do the mistakes in the field for the decisions. but they have facility to go for the 3rd umpires decision in such crutial conditions. india lost yuvraj at very crucial junture and india lost the match. such decisions shall be verified by the field umpire with the 3rd unpire. because finally you are suppposed to take full advantage of technology. another thing, if players are fined for such behaviour, then i propose ICC to also fine to the umpires for such bad decisions.

.....Bring in the metrics of measurement of umpires and let them be judged. Select top 6 in a pool and give them priority matches. That way you will see that umpires give more wrong decisions than players feeling bad....

Human fault
by Raj vardhan on Nov 20, 2007 03:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Well i can say 1 thing that as umpire given wrong decission it's not a fault as may happens sometimes becuz he is a humanbeing in the same case Yuvi also human and as he knows that he is not out so it's not possible to control feelings when he has to go for wrong decission
No one say that Yuvi has to be fined unless if they face that type experience

Bad umpiring decisions
by raghavendra bhagavatula on Nov 20, 2007 01:55 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is not a new thing tosay that bad decisions given by umpires have changed the results. I
READ IN CRICINFO COLUMN that Simon Taufel and Aleem Darr perosnally have mentioned about the wrong decisions given by them and how that affected the century score of a player who could not complete his century and the fate ofrecent india -england one day series in the Aleemdarr case.Whatever cricket experts say people are passionate about their country winning and are atleast united and patriotic in ,the sports.I don,t say that umpires shoud give decisions in the favour of host country. But they should give correct decisions and if they have a doubt they can use third umpire.Otherwise what for the third umpire is there? Is he there only to receive medallion at the end of series? I saw the recent Australia-sri lanka match. One run outwas not given. That is a correct decision confirmed by third umpire. But the Aussie commentators saw that replay atleast 5 times and still they were not happy with the third umpire decision as understood from their commentary.Aleem Dar says that hefelt very bad for giving Tendlkar out in the natwest series and it costed us the series.Cricket is for public entertainment and not for hurting their feelings. One man,s poor decision shoud not takeaway the enjoymentof millions.Added to this the player is fined for telling the truth. This is against natural justice.Who is at fault? Is it the umpire or the player? No law also supports the fact that the person who appe

Will said raghavendra bhagavatula. It is not upto the umps to ask for third ump. They have to have clear directive and guidelines given that they have to follow. The players should have the right to appeal to the ump.'s decision. To stop the players from keep appealing and be honest that have to have only a few appeals per match. This all should be standardized.

Neutral Umpiring or what?
by B Hayer on Nov 20, 2007 12:54 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I will like to think that giving Yuvi was human error. But why all the error happend in this match went agains India. Three Pak players were out LBW were given not out and one Indian was out and given out and one was not out and given out.

I don't think we only need to blame the umpire. I think it is the rule of the 50-50. Rule should be made that every team have three two chances to appeal any decision. If you win the appeal you still keep the two appeals in tact and if you loose the appeal you loose your first appeal and so on. We have the technology and we need to use it. Second part I don%u2019t like is that you have to appeal to have decision for out. There should not be any appealing unless against the decision. If some body is out it should be automatic given by ump with out any body appealing. In one of the matches played in Pak I was watching and Michael Holding also pointed out as commentator that why bowlers are fined for not looking at the umpire when out is obvious and most of the time umpire don%u2019t even have common courtesy to say not out when player is appealing or asking.

referees r biased against indian sub-continent players
by . on Nov 20, 2007 12:40 AM  Permalink

yuv is fined now. earlier afridi and gambhir both fined. 6 indians r fined at a stretch against sa in 2002 for excess appealing (innovative reason of fining).
what if michael slater abused dravid in a match in 2002 when he took his catch. slater goes scot free.
asians get united.
all asians r seen with doubt for chucking like akhtar, murli, bhajji, rajesh chauhan, etc.
dalmia was strong for the betterment of asians in icc

Challenging the umpire call
by on Nov 19, 2007 10:07 PM  Permalink

Cricket should have something like challange by a coach or captain similar to american football. If challenge is not in favour of coach then team should be charged with batting with one less over.

What about JOKER Suresh Shastri ?
by Jagan Mohan on Nov 19, 2007 09:28 PM  Permalink

Punishment should be given Suresh Shastri not to Yuvi. Another joker match referee Roshan Mahanama says "when the umpire raises his finger a player must leave the crease immediately and without question no matter what he may think of the decision" Umpires are just humen not GODS. One mistake of that Joker costed us the match, What about that?
The day is not faar, when all thease umpires will be replaced by a stump camera with AI.
