Now that Dravid has been dropped in ODI ...Heshould be retired permanently from Test if he fails in Australia....

On all recent foreign test series he has failed miserably .

Dravid scored only 1 fifty in the last six tests South africa and England . His average in England test series was around 20.

Scoring century in Ranji Match against Himachal does not mean anything...too much hype by Dravid fans... always

Good to see
by Rajesh Kumar on Nov 16, 2007 02:54 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is good to see Indian winning and sachin contributing in a key match. I am very sad that a class player like Rahul Dravid is kept out oif the Indian batting line up just because he had one bad season. He is a team man and remember he took to wicket keeping when India needed an extra batsman and his average during that period was almost 48 - 50. That shows how good a performer he is, but what does this foolish guy Vengsarkar know about that. Vengsarkar will bring Ajit Agarkar back into the team very soon , because he thinks Ajit Agarakar is the only match winning bowler in India.

RE:Good to see
by Vengsarkar on Nov 16, 2007 03:03 AM  Permalink
I will bet Agarakar doesn't come in, unless current indian bowlers go astray.
Also whether you consider the overall ODI career or the current year..Agarkar is still a better bowler compared to the current crop.
He gives odd boundry ball which is a problem.
Indian mentality is such that if a bowlwer goes for a boundry and balls remaining dots, he isn't better than someone who gives away 6 singles in an over.

Also its not just one bad season, its almost two bad seasons. 10 matches 100 runs..no one had such a lean patch. Just that it went un-noticed since we dont expect too much from the likes of Dravid..as we do form Tend, Gangu etc and so often his failures do un-noticed.

Yes dravid was a great ODI player, but step in the present...

No one compliments the selectors when india wins.

Happened even when T-20 was won.

Thankless job indeed, in a country where ever second person has an opinion on cricket matters and would possible have a different team.

Only the remaining 1/3rd are outsiders who live decently.
2/3rds are slum dwellers like mumBHAI,vengsarkar and other kars who are so insecure and feel inferior about themselves that they feel the need to abuse others.

Ya Ya Agree. I think Laxam (Laxman Shiv Ram Krishnan) is better player then Ganguly to open. Actually Laxam VVS and Laxman SRK can be open pair for 20 20, 50 50 and test. What do you say? Sachin is not confident anymore. He gets out always in 90's. He is sick. He should be out untill he will not score 200 runs in each ODI and 500 in each test and 100 in each 20 20.

RE:Support Rahul
by Vengsarkar on Nov 16, 2007 02:34 AM  Permalink
Rohan,
Rahul is not wanted in the ODI team anymore.

We have better ODI multi utility players than him...who don%u2019t need time to settle and can start scoring as asoon as they are in. ODI cricket is evolving batsmen who gring runs are losing importance.
One of the main differences between IND and Pak in the ODI series has been that pak have too many batsmen who take time to settle...younis, mhmd yusuf, to some extent shoaib malik etc. So despite some of these guys scoring heavily pak lost.
Look at India...on numerous occasions when we lost wickets, that didn't affect our scoring run-rate...since Rahul was not in the team.
Yes he is certainly useful in holding the batting together when we start losing lot of wickets, but then that happens just once in 4 or 5 matches and just for that odd match/situation we don%u2019t want him in the team. Anyways we end up losing that match, only the inevitable gets delayed.

But yes he will be considered in ODI series downunder (in austrailia), but not any more in sub continent conditions.

Rohan I do not remember which one but in ODI's he is not fit. He really playes slow and build the pressure on others. He is great batsman and perfactly fit for Tests. If selectors keeps him out of tests as well, I am really surprised. But for one day and 2020 No Rahul

Ian and Greg Chappell
by Alok Sharma on Nov 16, 2007 02:08 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Ian and his brother Greg were both great leaders who led the teams from the front. They were not playing for the money but for the fun of the game. They retired when they were in their prime. In his last test appearance Ian (playing under Greg) made 75 and 26 not out. He could have continued for a lot of more tests but didn't. Same was true of Greg Chappell who actually made a century in his last test match. These people practiced what they preach now. But they don't understand that in India things don't work this way, because the greed of money is there. So the players keep on playing until they are kicked out. Some come back even after being kicked out...

In this case I would say, Sachin's prime is yet to come. It's not necessary for every one to follow suit with Ian or Greg Chappell. Take the case of Lara, even at the age of 37 he played one of his best test innings in Pakistan last year.

IT'S NOT THAT SACHIN WANTS TO PLAY CRICKET IT'S CRICKET WANTS SACHIN TO PLAY.

The BEST Innings from Sachin
by Ricky Ponting on Nov 16, 2007 01:59 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Wow!!!!! The best innings ever played by any batsmen in the past two decades. What an astonishing innings. I live in the west coast of US. I woke up bit early this morning to watch this match. I'm rewarded 200% by Sachin.

I would rate this is the best innings played by sachin in terms of shots execution. He never made any mistakes during his stay at the crease.

This innings is better than he played at Lahore,2006. Then too he got out in the 90s.Coincidentally today too.

He sent a sound message to the world, the likes of Ian Chappel, who wants him retired. Well done sachin. I wish you play more this kinda inngins in Australia. That will be the slap on the face of Ian Chappel.
