A wise man is he who knows his limitations. A great player need not be a great captain. Good decision Tendlya !
Only a fool will question sachin's commitment to Indian cricket.

A wise man who knew his limitation already accepted captaincy and proved an utter failure. Yes, he is a failure, i accept it now. Now, I become one among you.

And another fool will adhere to everything of an individual who is already rich upto neck and wants no responsibilities when the team desperately needs it.

Why not Ganguly
by Swarup on Nov 06, 2007 05:01 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Ganguly should be the test captain. Hello BCCI... did u forget that Ganguly is one of the best captains of the Indian team. It would also be helpful for Dhoni to learn about test captaincy before he takes the charge

Duty makes beauty...
by saumen ganguli on Nov 06, 2007 05:00 PM  Permalink

In a team, every member should be ready to take any responsibility given to him. Rejecting that...should be punished. Being in 'team india' is same like working in a office. Selectors should encourage professionalism, not like a decision like Sachin. Now Sachin in fearing to loose his position as one dayer....So, he is not willing to take any responsibility.... This is not a professional attitude...It is agreed that, he has done good in the past (and got payment for that), we respect that....but we should not appreciate such decision...... Anyway..selectors may not read my comment.....Best of luck !!

Long standing damage
by Rajaraman on Nov 06, 2007 05:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Guru greg has done a unredeemable damage to indian cricket by his unorthodox ways of coaching. He ousted Ganguly spoiled Dravid named tendulkar. Now has found Dhoni also not ready For him only Raina was suitable. Now BCCI has to request Raina to be the captain. Even he may turn down who knows?
God help in Indian cricket.

Venugopal Rao should be the captain. He was the another goti of guru greg. but we should not forget that Dravid also support guru greg a lot and became the king.

I have lost a little bit of respect for Sachin Tendulkar!!
by Bhasmasur on Nov 06, 2007 05:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Make no mistake..he is an icon who has brought accolades to self and to Team India..
But this perplexing decision to not accept the captaincy smells of self preservation...

If he had accpeted the captaincy, it would have been taking the bull by its horns...I'am an 18 year veteran at the highest level and i'am in the best position to guide the fortunes of the team against strong opposition like Pakistan and Australia...
If i win both the seires or do really well both as a captain and as a player, then my position in the team would be strengthened and my stock will zoom up by several notches!!
My colleagues, selectors and the fans will see me as a rainmaker in troubled times and i will enjoy unprecedented glory!!

Fine...fair enough!!
But what if i lose as a captain to Pakistan and to Australia??
India and Pak are evenly matched...one great innings by a Younis or Yousuf might turn the tide Pakistan's way... Australia are hot favourites to win..
If i lose as a captain, i would have no moral authority to continue as a mere player under a young captain...it would also amount to a humiliation of sorts...
So, that would effectively spell the end of my cricketing career...no, i still have 3 to 4 good years left in me!!

So, it is professional self preservation that has prompted Tendulkar to reject the captaincy!!

I thought he should have summoned that courage and confidence to come up trumps after 18 years at the highest level!!
