The excessive ZEAL to support your own people made me think like this.....but prove me wrong....Tell me which state's MP's and MLA's give their opinion about the drop of a player from Indian team...I am sorry if i hurt your feelings but it seems very true to me.

make sense.....

He did made a sensible decision...think BCCI shud encourage MSD and Yuvi for the teams leadership...its a team game and i think everybody shud think and play as captain's responsibility who are in the team...No ego, No irresposibilty, only play for the country and feel pride in playing for the country...

The captain shd be from the playing 11.He shd have a guaranteed place by his batting or bowling.Yuvraj or Ganguly in the 6th spot?If it is Yuvraj he shd be captain. If it is Ganguly it shd be Ganguly.Openers will be Jaffer,Sehwagor Karthik. So Sehwag is not certain. This rules him out.Dravid,Tend,Laxman come next.So Laxman is a possible choice.Better to take a call on Ganguly versus Yuvraj for the 6th batting spot and whoever it is can be captain. With Dhoni eased out,Karthik keeping both Yuvraj and Ganguly can be in.So a call on this has to be taken to resole the Test captainy muddle.

What has Sehwag done recently to deserve a place?
Is your reason for dropping Ganguly decided by sheer hate towards that man or from cricketing reasons

Right decision
by sandeep sulakhe on Nov 06, 2007 05:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Sachin has taken correct decision by not accepting the captaincy. He is a GREAT player, but somehow he isn't a leader who can lead from the front. He can stay behind the curtains(as a player) and pass on the abundance of knowledge that he has accumulated over the years, to the "youngsters".Let him do what he does best-score runs, and a mentor to the budding stars of tomorrow.

RE:Right decision
by Vikas Joshi on Nov 06, 2007 06:08 PM  Permalink
Sachin has taken correct decision, but I do not agree with your views that he is not a leader. Please recall the times he was made a captain, there were no fit bowlers, Shreenath was out with injury, so was Kumble, and V. Prasad the present bowling coach was half fit and struggling with indifferent form. Amongst batsmen also Azhar had indifferent form, Saurav and Dravid were just coming to terms with international cricket and with the exception of Navjyot Singh, there was no really experienced and in form player for most of Sachin's tenure. Nayan Mongia was of some help. Sachin did manage to surprise Australian team led by Mark Taylor and he also managed to surprise South Africans led by Hansie Cronje. Also Sachin was not given the freedom to decide anything, infact some half baked selectors who never even held a bat in their hands were dictating the number at which Sachin should bat. Also there was no good coach and that proved costly because of tough situation of our team at that time. So I genuinely feel that Sachin has good skills but he was not really allowed settle down in that role, and also perhaps he himself was not really desirous of that post.

Is this argument correct that Tendulkar doesnt play for the country?
by sachii chao on Nov 06, 2007 05:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Tendulkar played 403 ODIs. His average is 44.12.
Out of 403 matches, India won 199 matches and lost 181 matches. Out of his 41 ODIs Hundereds he scored 29 Hundereds in the India's victory. His average in India's victories is 56.84, ie more than his career average. In world cup matches his average is astonishing as 57.93!! In all finals his average is 46.52 !! again more than his career average!! In series won his average is 51.26!

What do the people(only a few dumb who raise their voice) expect from him when they say that he is not playing for the country?

Do they mean that he should play in all matches everytime and all other batsmen should get cover from him to save their miserable performance??

One should study, during the captaincy of Saurav, most of the time India fielded 7 batsmen (sometimes Dravid was made to keep the wicket!!) Why was it necessary?? Just to cover up other non performing batsmen??

People says that Tendulkar was failure as a Captain. One should study that When Tendulkar was captaining Sheenath was injured, a few batsmen were sitting out due to match fixing. Therefore, was it correct that he was a failure. Our selection committee of that time was very in hurry to make Saurav as a Captain without digesting the true facts!!

Today he has turned down the captainy because there is more importance to ODI captaincy than Test Captaincy.(Is there world cup of Test as ODIs? No!)
Therefore he is correct in turning down the captaincy of Test Crick

Rather than just debating baseless, people should analyse the statistics of Tendulkar and other batsmen including Dravid, Ganguly etc.. One will find a very few player such as All time great Viv Richards etc can match Tendulkars greatness!!

I am a hardcore punjabi, still i support Sourabh Ganguli. He's one of the best captains to have ever lead team india. Check out the stats.
He is a very good strategician and a very aggressive person.
I cant say anything about any politics involved, coz i aint seen anything myself.

Captaincy
by murthy on Nov 06, 2007 05:48 PM  Permalink

First we should know the reasons for removing Dravid from Captaincy. I dont understand why BCCI after every few years begs Tendulkar to become the Captain and Tendulkar refuses it every time. All this indicates existence of some lobies and the inability of BCCI to take a decision on the Captaincy, etc with out offering the first right of refusal to Tendulkar.
Sorry state of affairs just like Indian Politics.

I think sachin is fed up with the politics in BCCI and looking at the treatment handed out to Sourabh Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, he doesn't want to get into this.
Its not chickening out, Its more like saying "Keep your politics with you, let me just play cricket"
