Laxman to be made Captain
by km vb on Nov 06, 2007 10:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Laxman to be made as Captain.Even if v loose,Laxman and Captaincy will disapear or will be forgotten once we remove Laxman from the squad. It is good to groom Dhoni by giving Test Captaincy to Laxman for couple of Series and give captaincy after couple of series as by that time we get fresh blood after retirement of Sachin,Saurav and Laxman.

We only have a chance to win against aus in aus while we have Dravid, laxman and Sachin who am sure are going out soon. And for the next team to get there it will take a decade. So might as well use this last opporunity to good use by making the best possible captain even if it has to be for only that series. So Kumble or Laxman!

See, if it comes off...then India will pose a very very serious threat to australia!!

Otherwise, instead of one regular seamer we can get in Pathan and make him open...

But if you want to beat Australia, you have to go with 3 seamers and 2 spinners!!
You can't beat them with 4 bowlers!!
And if you go with 5 bowlers, then you would need a makeshift opener to partner either Sehwag or Jaffer...thats the bottomline!!

I think you are passionately tring to come up with a winning combo. But think about it u are making a big mistake there is no such thing as "if it comes off"..even middle order batsemn dont try to open in tests. So forget opening a tail ender against aus in aus. Are you kidding me?? So try to stay real in your quest.
The idle for me would be
Karthik
Jaffar
Dravid
Sachin
Laxman
Yuraj
Pathan
Zaheer
Sreesanth
Kumble
Harbhajan
Now I got you 5 bowlers and openers with recent form in foriegn conditions and the experienced and yuvraj in the middle. Dhoni has to wait and compete against Yuraj as a full time batsmen or against karthik as opener.

Sorry Sehwag is out of form. I knwo he did well last time we went there. but we cant leave in the pasts. Yes if in the recent developments if he gets a chance and performs well in shows a sign of come back in ODI and if Karthik fails against pak. Yes you might see him in aus as opner instead of karthi and then Yuvraj/Gunguly or Pathan have to make way for Dhoni in the middle.

Anil Kumble should be made Test Captain
by wibas wibas on Nov 06, 2007 10:24 PM  Permalink

Anil Kumble is experienced cricketer and highest wicket taker from India, valuing both he will best suit for the captaincy. There won't be any grudges or dissatisfaction within the team if he is the captain

Killer strategy to beat team Australia!!
by Bhasmasur on Nov 06, 2007 10:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

~ COMMENTS ARE NOT JUST WELCOME..COMMENTS ARE A MUST....BRICKBATS ARE WELCOME TOO!!

1) Australia have 4 lefthanders in the top order in Phil Jacques, Hayden, Hussey and gilly!! So, we need an offspinner to trouble them and none better than Bhajji..
Anil is a must so we go with two spinners!!

2) 2 seamers in Australia is a risk..so we need to go with 3 seamers...my choice would be Zaheer for his experience, line and length...Sreesanth for his match winning ability and RP Singh/Munaf as the accurate workhorse....

3) Thus we go with 5 bowlers and one batsman short..to compensate for one batsman short, we need to go with ALL experienced batsman...

4) Dhoni cannot open thus anil Kumble will be the makeshift opener!! no other choice!!

Sehwag
Anil Kumble(taking the shine off the new ball)
Rahul WALL Dravid
Sachin Tendulkar
VVS Laxman(vice captain)
Sourav Ganguly(captain)
MS Dhoni
Harbhajan singh
Zaheer Khan
Sreesanth
RP Singh/Munaf Patel

A dangerous team which can trouble australia no end!!
Only strategy where there is risk is opening with Kumble..that is a risk worth taking!!

this is not going to be the team finally and even if it is so the captain will be different, so teh same team which has always been of the same type would not be a threat even to bangladesh.

Seniors
by Upadrasta PardhaSaradhi on Nov 06, 2007 10:16 PM  Permalink

India need to move ahead and think ahead of 3 greats.
This is the right time for this.
We should play a mix of senior and junior players and have a rotation policty to groom the junior players and make them adjusted to the competetive cricket before seniors retires.

Make Dhoni the captian.
Indian always should play with 6 4 1 combination in the test matches and among 6 Batsman, 3 should be seniors among Dravid, Sachin, Saurav, Lakshman and 3 should be juniors ( Rohi Sharma,Jaffer,Dinesh Karthik,Yuvraj,Ghambhir, badarinath, yousf Pathan ....etc). It doesnt matter even if these youngsters fails. You should stick to them.

But the problem is that we r not so patience with the youngsters. If they fails in 2 matches, we call them Idiots and ask to bring back the senior players.

Playing seniors is OK, but we should have a long-term plan to groom the youngsters before the seniors retires. We should agree that we have only 2 years with us before these seniors go off and we should use this 2 years very intelligently.

Captain?
by KSatish on Nov 06, 2007 10:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dhoni's Case:

I easily think Dhoni should NOT be made a captain for now.

Firstly because, he is too young and yet to learne some things and

secondly, he himself should not be made so assured of a spot in the team yet as karthik can open and keep, that makes a spot open for a full time batsmen or an extra bowler to come into play which is very important if India is looking to be number 1 in test ranking.

Kumble's Case:

He actually deserved it a long back and never made. It is not as if he lacks leadership or is not a strong personality. Atleast he deserves such a reward, if nothing else, for his service. And he wouldnt mind, this being stop gap.

Laxman's Case:

He was always groomed to be a captain and has done and lot of work so can also be a good prospect. But his personality is a bit softer and he allows people to think that he doesnt have a permanant spot in the team which is causing to come in the way of him becoming the one. None the less at this time, would be a great booster for him, since its australia which is coming up (after pak) and he definetly is a permanant fixture there.

Other Cases:

Definetly Gunguly shouldnt be ruled out since this is only a stop gap. Winning against australia is vital so if it needs a tried and tested one so be it. So he should be considered with an air or forgiveness and a chance to redemtion.

Dravid can be pleaded into an year.

All in all, my vote goes to Kumble.

I agree. Let Kumble be captain for a year and groom Dhoni during this period. Giving test captaincy to Dhoni so soon will add to the pressure. Moreover I still think that Dhoni has to improve a lot in order to be a regular in test cricket. He cannot play purely as batsman nor purely as WK. So he still has to the WK batsman. Let him prove that he can play as well in foreign conditions as he does in Indian conditions before making him the captain.

Let Kumble concentrate completely on destroying Australian middle order with his bowling...i'am sure he will destroy Australia in atleast a couple of tests...let him not be burdened with captaincy..

My vote goes to Ganguly for a stopgap or to VVS Laxman for his vast experience and also the fact that he is a certainty in tests for atleast 4 more years!!

Each has to concentrate on some thing or the other. And one among them has to captain too. SO the best option who can come close to doing that job and not letting his performance drop can be Kumble. The other being Gunguly since it is not expected to make so many runs. So they are the best prospects since it is a stop gap.

Goog Thingq
by Upadrasta PardhaSaradhi on Nov 06, 2007 09:55 PM  Permalink

This a good thing happended to Indian cricket. Sachin is a great player , but proved that he is not a great leader and have gone into his own shell while he was a captian. good that he refused the captaincy gracefully. Now selectors now have to decide they wanted a new look to the Indian test squad also with sachin refusing and dravid out of the team. Seeing the weakness Saurav had earlier in the test matches, it is not a good idea to give captaincy to him.
This leads only 3 names to discuss, Dhoni, Kumble and Lakshman.

So finally in my opinion, make either lakshman or kumble the captain and give Dhoni the vice captaincy.
