the next match will tell you what u dnt have a dependable middle order . Coz yuvraz is a finisher & dhoni is i hitter uthhapa is a pinch hitter . But the team dnt hav the great wall of china . And we certainly gonnaa miss him in da next match.

Saurav Ganguly unwittingly did a favour to the team by dropping Yusuf. Mohammad Yusuf is Dravid of Pakistan, solid and correct. With the life given to him he went about playing the spinners 'correctly' and on merits and in the process slowed down the scoring rate. This created such a lot of pressure that Afridi and Shoeb Malik got out. Even though Yusuf later made up for his individual strike rate, his team could not make up for the loss. This is exactly what a number of Indian players have beein doing in the era when India had become a regular loser. Thankfully, the new generation and the new management has understood this and has taken corrective action. My guess is India is winning this series 5-0 or at the worst 4-1.n

Ashish you might have got your facts wrong who knows if Ganguly had taken the catch the Pakis could have been all out below 200, the same way if Gambhir's catch was taken we would have struggled. I still think Yusuf is the key player in the Pakistan line up. all the remaining players dont have the technique to last 50 overs with exception of Younius we get this two guys out, we will win the matches easily. Afridi can do it once in a while but not always.

Chintu Paaji, we won the Test series in England, lost the one-day series by 3-4, one one-day series against SA in Ireland(or Scotland?) and most importantly won T-20 World Cup. We don't mind India losing, afterall its just a sport but we hate them giving it away tamely!!!!!!!They r human being, don't expect them to win all the matches in all the conditions..

Remove Sachin,Sourav,Sehwag,Zaheer..We cannot continue to keep them in team by lookng at thier past performaces. If dravid is dropped why cannot selectors drop these old horses?.

It is very easy to say to drop somebody.
If you see last 10-15 innings of Sachin, he averages about 50, which is highest in current team, and Sourav is at about 40. Our expectations from these guys are so high that we tend to ignore good performances. So current form is important than past performance, Right?

This win was ok with a dead pitch which blunted the Pak attack. Now India will do well in India on flat pitches. So we cannot read too much into the batting exploits of Dhoni and Yuvraj.we can pass judgement only after they play in Australia. It is good to see Dhoni going for the pull shot. But it will be tougher on a bouncy track. The Indian new ball attack is looking weak.I hope if India wins at Mohali next,Rohit in place of Tend and Praveen Kumar in place of Ganguly shd be tried thereafter.Somehow this batting lineup which looks great on flat pitches will come unstuck on pitches with some life.

Don't bring in silly regionalism into cricket.Dhoni's batting on bouncier tracks is suspect,so is Yuvraj. That is the issue.Dravid needs to get some form so let him be.His value will be realised, but he is not an automatic choice for the one day side.He has to prove he still has it,as do Saurav and Tend.

The pitch on Aus suits Big 3 and also Yuvi. But in the case of Dhoni and Uthappa is doubtful as we saw before in Eng.There we need Sehwag or Raina or Dinesh karthick. We will not come to conclusion of pace bowlers in this pitch. It is ok for Akthar who has ligtning speed. But for our bowlers except pathan they need some assistance form pitch. But I think there is qustion mark in the spinners are concern in aus soil.Bhajji is okay. But abt karthick, he may be useful considering his County experience.

I agree with you that Raina seems good but his pull shot is suspect. He shd be played in the third one dayer.Karthik has to know to survive first few overs,I am not sure about his horizontal bat shots.Sehwag was great but is now looking jaded and can be cramped up easily.

Bumpy ground reason for drop catches?
by Krishna Kumar on Nov 06, 2007 08:59 AM  Permalink

It was so funny to read the reasons given by Shoaib Malik for the loss...Bumpy ground could be a factor, but I guess it won't be much different on any Pak ground. Also is bumpy ground responsible for all the drop catches by Pakis?

Not right
by Shamik Ghosh on Nov 06, 2007 08:52 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Many people tend to think that Sachin, Sourav, Dravid, LAxman, Kumble, Zaheer (strangely though Zaheer is falling in the=is category) are old horses ... they feel that these guys should be dropped since India loses if they don't play well and India loses even if they play well ...
But it is a funny proposition I find ... India would have lost those matches also which they have won if these players had not played their part in those games !
Young players definitely deserve chances ... Badrinath, Rohit Sharma, Praveen Kumar, C. Pujara, M. Tiwari are all very good prospects , but lets not abuse the senior brigade like this ...

Ganguly is a Liability
by Reporter on Nov 06, 2007 08:29 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I feel Ganguly is no more useful even as a player; leave alone Captain. He neither has the capacity to play nor the capability to lead. Dhoni should keep this in mind for international Cricket if Indian team should create an impact.

Though i also personally don't like his batting from quite sometime...but todays match was altogether different ganguly..you just can't blame him in this match..he was great though his strike rate wasn't as good as gambhir's but whoever has seen the match would definitely agree that he was the dominating person there. As far as comparison of captaincy is concerned I would like to know how would have Dhoni got such a team..before comparing any captain just compare the teams that these two had as captain..As a captain you are tested most when you are on the verge of defeat and dhoni hasn't faced much of it except maybe this tour of australia here where he did ok but do you remember how ganguly had taken it on australia on india's tour to australia..which shows his real character and he really was an excellent captain as he managed such record with that sort of team and it was him who had urged for youngsters like yuvi, bhajji, kaif and pathan. And lastly how could you forget whatever record he had also had wins with the wonder boy of cricket parthiv patel who was wicket keeper for a long enough time in his captaincy, I can bet if he plays for australia they will definitely loose the match.

Ganguly definitely has the right attitude for the game and we require it in loads when we visit Australia. He was the guy who sculpted the present team out of rubbish of match fixing in 2000 and made us into a match winning outfit which at one time was ranked as high as 2nd in ODI ranking. Sometimes the politics off the field can affect your performance if you dont understand ask Dravid who was forced to step down from captaincy so that he can be unceremoniously dumped. Do you think they could have touched him if he was the captain. there is a strong lobby against Ganguly also I fear if you go by Vengsarkar's statement.

Reporter, Your comments are baseless.
I agree, dhoni must be captain and presently, he id doing fine job.
However, as a player ganguly is a fine batsman.
he is playing well.
Agree, if ganguly fails in 5 or 6 innings continously,
he should be shown door as well like dravid.

True, Ganguly is not the same what he was a decade ago but his talents and experience together provide for enough. All his his substitutes have failed against quality fast bowling. At least he contributes seizable amount of runs at a strile rate of 70 plus and faces best of the bowling without too much difficulty.
