whose dreams were shattered - at least sri lanka got to the world cup!!!
Hello, Many are sayin its unethical, Illegal bla bla bla...How do people get to know this, only because Gilly revealed it.He can silently cheat others but he didnt do that.He can still use a extra piece of rubber ( not neccasarily a squash ball) and can still achieve what he wants with out a notice to others. This has been a practice in the past, Gary sobers once used 9 grips to his bat which gives far more grip than a small squash ball, even Vinod kambli did that .....
He is surely one of most sportman spirit minded player in the world. We would not come to know the fact had he not revealed.Yet he should have taken the permission of the ICC for using an unauthorised external support while batting.Using drugs is also external to the game.If the ball in the glove has helped him to improve his strokes then it should be termed as illegal. If taking steroid to improve stamina is barred then this should also be taken as an offence.Yet I maintain the Gilchrist is a great player.
Let's test it by asking Gilly to try scoring another century in the next couple of matches by putting a squash ball in his glove. If it works then we can change the batting techniques, throw all coaching manuals out of the window and induct squash-balls-in-glove technique at the academy level. If it doesn't work, then stop chattering, they won the cup 3 times in a row, so kudos to them.
If a former SL player could be allowed use a bat which was visibly at least 3/4 inch broader than the allowed width, then how could you call a batsman who has slipped a ball in his glove a cheat? If anything I would find it a hindrance to have an object in my glove that would stop me from gripping the bat properly.

Friend.. The ball was a rubber one.. A rubber ball acts just like a spring and it gives the batsmen an undue advantage.
Gilchrist used the ball only in the Final and he scored only in this final.
Its always the same worldwide.....the losers try to find faults with the winner! But, really does it matter??The australians outplayed all the other teams in the world cup 2007 in all the departments, batting, bowling, fielding and also the sportsmanship. The subcontinent teams, perennial chokers outside the subcontinent choked as always in this world cup too and thus this is just a silly ploy on their part to snatch the limelight of the winners.....if not by playing on the field...at least off the field!! but this is never going to succeed. If at all there should something be done......its to congratulate the australian team whole-heartedly for its grand performance and try to elevate ourself as close as possible to the true champs.
