Isn;t is too early fo rIshant he just started playing at seniors Every new bowler in the beginning is difficult to read and a slight mistake make the end of batmen so with just one session it won't be enough for Ishant In few games his style will be available for dissection for one and all It is during this time with the level of experience he has it will be diffcult to adjust a case similar to lot of talented bowler including irfan pathan has be in and out of team. Its better to give him more match practice in domestic matches rather than making him sit out and watch an internatin matches
Pak keeps producing one fast bowler after another while India which is 5 times the size of Pak is still "looking" for a genuine quickie. Like Tendulkar emerged from nowhere in 1988-89 (?) and ruled the art called batting b4 we all realised that Tendulkar is also human, are we waiting & hoping that someone will emerge from nowhere and bowl fast?? Hey, where's MRF PACE foundation these days...no one there?

Dude, 140Kms is of course the fastest by indian standard...but these bowlers will be blasted out of the park against team like Australia.
Shankar Panday - I read one of your posts again and I think the words you used "mean & vicious" are the qualities needed (and that can come from any diet). Maybe the inherent Indian sense of non violence and moderation comes in the way of potentially talented young quick bowlers turning into blood thirsty quick fast bowlers. No fast bowler's resume in history read "a fast bowler and a gentleman" and no fast bowler was that to a batsman. Maybe someone like Srinath who could go 140K as need even just before retirement could have been a genuine fast bowler if he had that frame of mind. Anywasy, the new lot are really sorry when it comes to speed. Every one of Zak, Nehra, Agarkar and Srinath from WC2003 were quicker than the quickest we have now - namely Sreesanth (others in contention being Munaf, Irfan, Ishan, Bose, RP Singh).

now mean & vicious can be instilled...the point is diet whether meat or vegetarian is not a big obstacle...the point some people make up here is being Muslim & eating beef is a huge plus....as a matter of fact a non meat diet is far better for athletes both in terms of strength(less fat), agility, stamina etc......thats bullshit..some of the most talented football players come from Latin America most of which are dirt poor and hv living conditions at par or worse than India's.

FYI, everyone in Latin America eats meat and also in Europe and in Africa. It is not a Muslim thing. Who gets the most gold medals at Olympics? US. Guess what, they eat meat 3 times a day. Who is the world champion in soccer? Italy... guess what they eat meat everyday. All European teams at great at soccer. All of them are meat eaters. How many gold medals has India won? How about 0. Where are the best basketball players in the world? Again the answer, meat eating countries. Where are the fastest athletes in the world i.e 100 m sprint, 400 m sprint. You are guessed it again right, countries where meat is a staple part of the diet. Where are the fastest swimmers in the world? You guessed it again, meat eating countries i.e Australia, USA. Facts are facts where you like it or not.

arre baba...US gets the gold medals, but Colombia doesnt both eat beef and pork.... Pakis eat alot of beef n very little veggies, Pakis dont get gold medals at all in Olympics..but kill each other a lot in Karachi......& Pakis r 170 million of them but no medals.......Bangladeshis eat beef, fish, vegs and are 170 million of them...no gold medals - 140th in FIFA standings even tho fanatical about football....now all that Gama, Akram, Bholu pehelwan Pakis boasted about get their arm broken by Inoki...so the beef does'nt help does it??? .so u got ur answer, havent u? eating beef dont mean anything at all yar, its obvious..veggie Barbarosa win at Kentucky Derbys but cannibal wolf cant..can he???

You're right that Carl Lewis became a vegan (no animal products including milk) in 1990. But he became a better athlete since that time in his own words and he had his best years since then. This article below is educative irrespective of being a veg or meat lover. http://earthsave.org/lifestyle/carllewis.htm

Well one serious flaw in your analysis is the assumption that 1. Indians are not meat eaters (or India does not have enough people eating meat as staple) and 2. All meat eating countries produce fantastic athletes which are both incorrect. Good diet meat and/or no meat is important and it's dead wrong to suggest that India does not produce fast bowlers because of non consumption of meat.

Let me bring a baseball analogy to this. Japan/Korea are producing very fast pitchers these days. When they imported baseball to their countries in the 50s they were mostly non meat eating (i would like to point out i am not saying they did not eat fish). Now meat (beef, pork that they imported along with baseball) is a staple of their diet. And in the 50s they could never throw 90 mph. Now they throw 100 mph pitches.
RE:RE:Need for speed - Mean & Vicious

Objection to this suggestion will be sustained in a court of law. Just because they started throwing at 100MPH doesn't mean it's because of beef or pork. It could be plenty of other reasons. Interesting information though. One never knew that those countries were investing so heavily in Baseball

Not that I'm proposing Vegitarianism or otherwise - Carl Lewis, declared the sportsman of the century by the internation olympic committee, one of, if not, the greatest athletes of all time is a vegetarian. But that is a moot point for this "discussion". Folks I need to point out to both of you, your style of writing is fun and educative to read.

I aint vegetarian at all but I see this diet chart in my gym..a chart for 'bodybuilders & weight lifters' mind you.. food guidelines for these athletes..now this chart is in concentric circles and many of u may hv seen it...the bulls eye- best diet has NO meat in it, the protein sources are from Salmon & sardines !! the outer circles which are progressively lesser diets hv some meat in them....so no damn Beef or Pork or any red meat in the 'best diet' circles !! so how is beef so indispensable to sports?? actually how cud something that clog up your heart and penile arteries could be so high and mighty???? what kind of a warped argument is this ??? indeed it is bad food and in the light of the information available these days you should not be advocating this at all !!!

Carl Lewis now is a vegetarian. When he was an athlete and during the years he was brought up (i.e 20 years of his life) he was never a vegetarian. Being a vegetarian when you are in your 40s is good because thats the time you want to control your cholesterol. Not many people (again case of point I am not saying no one has ever died) die of an heart attack in their 20s - 40s. Correct me if I am wrong. In either case, there will be cases when vegetarians will be good atheletes but that is not the norm. Just like not every meat eater will be a good athelete. My point is to be a great athelete (faster, longer, higher, pitch faster, bowl faster), you have to include meat in your diet and not just after the age of 20 but in your developing years.
Whatever pace bowlers eat the world over, when it comes to bowling really quick on a cricket pitch its the attitude that matters.....its not what goes into stomach that matters as much as what is inside the head.....look at the genuine quickies like Lee, Akthar,Bond & the bygone ones like Marshall,Donald,Akram ,Wagar etc. DO u notice anything common in them?? They all RUN IN FAST (REAL FAST and not ambling in ) to deliver the cricket ball....u need balls to do that ball after ball.....its a mind thing.
except for imran and wasim and waqar, no otehr so called fast bowlers have ever threatened batsmen consistently, except in a series or two..shoaib and sami have only tsretched themse;ves too hard that they have become match unfit...where have they gpne now..so its not in beef or pork eating, its in ur heart...

How does it matter?let them eat a horse, camel, whale or an elephant all their lives, nothing is going to change for the indian team. When they do not want to even put an honest effort in training hard, how can things improve. While practising they always want to chat with their wives or girlfriends. How can they achieve anything.By the way who told you that Mohd kaif,Irfan pathan or Zaheer Khan don't eat beef????We don't have all Hindus in our team.
