The story of the match so far
by prash k on Feb 14, 2007 01:27 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The story of the match so far has been how Sri lanka get clawing back despite losing wickets at regular intervals. They never allowed themselves to get bogged down when wickets were falling and kept the score board ticking with singles and the occasional fours. Russel Arnold deserves a lot of praise for his composure, especially since he is coming back to the side after a long time.

Almost dreadful to think what Dravid would have done in the same situation. Some of the Indian batsmen tend to get bogged down too much during pressure situations like these, and forget to take the attack back to the enemy camp. I think the way Lanka handled the situation should be a blue print to follow in these situations.

Now India goes up against a Lankan attack, minus Vaas, Murali and even Masinga their new weapon in the pace bowling variety. All pointers seems to lead to an easy victory, but, can they be choked by some inspire bowling and some tight fielding?

i think u are right that we let the lankans loose in the end. what is commendable is that they were not al out despite loosing the top quite early as in the 25th over. this shows the planning & implementation in the team. unlike the indians who are too busy experimenting & planning, but when it comes to implementation the coash & the captain blame it on RIO.

Weak Team
by shanawaz khan on Feb 14, 2007 01:26 PM  Permalink

I think this time we have a less chance of winning world cup, as our team is very weak against if we compare our team like Aussies & S.Africa

Don's under estimate Viru's batting performance. Its viru's bad time. Any player sits in this situtation. Only thing is that at one time they come out of this problem. Let's hope viru comes in good form before world cup starts. So nothing wrong trying viru in the opening the Indian innings

Dinesh Karthick should not be played as a full time batsman
by Ahmed Ali on Feb 14, 2007 01:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I dont think it is wise to play Dinesh Karthik as a full time batsman. He should be donning the glove in case Dhoni is not fit. Remember he is a wicket keeper batsman.

Whats the point in playing Dinesh Karthick today. I think they should have had Robin Uthappa in the team today now that Yuvraj is fit. He would have given that much needed stability to the batting line up.

I understand that Robin lost his place because they wanted to play Shewag as opener but then they could have done so be asking Ganguly come one down.

It should not matter whether Ganguly opens or comes 1 down, (if Sehwag is opening) since Ganguly would be coming well before the 5th over (if not 3rd)

If sehwag succeeds today, what will be Robin Utahppa's position. Will he be out of 11.

A dismal display by the Indians.......we are going for world cup and we still don't have the capabilities to get a side all out under 150 even after getting their 3 top senior players out for nothing on board........and that too when u are playing in your own backyard.......it was like a normal one day match with wickets falling initially and then few lallu panjus getting a decent partnership to take their side to a respectable total.......jaago india jaago

Consistency is what the team needs
by Mannu on Feb 14, 2007 01:22 PM  Permalink

Harbhajan did a good job. Zaheer's 10-over-5-wicket-spell was outstanding. but even then from 98/5 in 25-26 overs to 230/8 in 50 over and that too not out does not signifies good CONSISTENT form of the team. instead of extream ups and downs and average course may prove well for indians.
any way.. good effort. Getting Sangakkara for zero is also a good thing.
