The loss still leaves the world cup selection more confused
by Thilakh Chacko on Feb 11, 2007 06:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The unanswerable questions that remains are:-

1) Should Sehwag be in or out of the world cup team? If not, who will replace him?
2) Should Kumble or Powar be selected For World Cup team? Powar can take match winning wickets and bat. Even though I admire Kumble, I feel as if he struggles in ODI and can't bat. Kumble is best suited for Test not ODI.

Tomorrow sure is an exciting day to watch the surprises in the team selection for world cup.

There will be no surprises in team selection. This is becos neither our selectors nor our great players will ever learn their lesson.

Be ready to accept the fact that Virednra Sehwag, inspite of his worst performsnce would board the plane to WI to play in the world cup.

Well this is India and this is our Indian selectors...........they will nevery change.

India's defeat
by Subramanian K on Feb 11, 2007 06:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

When would we stop complaining and blaming. It is high time we take responsibility for our performance and out stupid way of team selection.

What was the need to include Virendra Sehwag inn the team at all. He shou;d not find a place in the Indian team any more. He should go back and play domestic games to regain his form, if at all that is possible. Viru.........pls follow Ganguly's disciplined way.

Even Ajit Agarkar would have scored more runs than Sehwag and we could have easily won the match.

High time for BCCI selectors to wake up and take things seriously.

No common sense
by Kalyan L on Feb 11, 2007 06:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India lost and many people blame many cricketers for the loss. But for me, not everyone clicks everytime and it was a good effort. But I cant stop noticing the lack of common sense in our cricketers. When Harbhajan and Kumble come in for batting with very few balls left and Dhoni at the other end, what the hell were they trying to do? Dont they even know that by hook or crook they got to rotate the strike? Are they planning on big boundaries? They might be bowlers, but if they cant take one single and change the strike, they are not worth to be there. And I think Dhoni has got his basics wrong. He plays test matches with strike rate above 100. But one dayers at crucial stages, he reverts to lousy singles. Though he might have scored 40 , its a shame to see him play like that when situation demands otherwise!

Yes--I completely agree with u--our bowlers don't know to bat sensibly according to the situation and rotate the strike--no brains at all-- and u just watch their body language when they come out to bat-especially people like Munaf patel

'Dada' should have finished off. Out Shewag Kumble and In Laxman Mongia
by sudip majumder on Feb 11, 2007 05:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Ater Dada's suicidal sneak ; banning Karthick there was no one with solid technique. Dhoni is no Gilchrist and sorry no technique too! Shewag shoudl be dumped right away and so is Kumble for the WC. But we all know Shewag Kumble Pathan will have WC ticket where as Laxman Mongia Munaf have to stay back. Even Yuvraj who sucked all the matches he played after injury including one 20/20 would get a ticket! Amol Muzumder, Tewary would not be tested and of course laxman is always persona non grata in regime of Dravis & Chappel. Dravid just does not get it - why did he send Kumble ahead of Sreeshant? Harbhanjan as always acts before he thinks. Dhoni just killed the game!

EAST OR WEST SACHIN IS THE BEST
by Don Khan on Feb 11, 2007 05:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

East or West Sachin is the best. He should be made captain soon. And Dravid & Sehwag should be out of ODI squad. Only Sachin and Saurav can guide India to wins in WC. They should open for the team. Any doubts????

Why does it always happen?
by Ajay Mishra on Feb 11, 2007 05:50 PM  Permalink

ndia has lost in such circumstances for at least million times. They are really highly upredictable team. They are dogs who can only perform when it's their day and unfortunately, the sun only rises a few days in a year.

We, cricket fans, want to believe so desperately that our team has now improved and would not sink back to the bottom that we forget that how can it be when the players are the same as before, selectors are the same as before, Only thing that perhaps has changed is our way to look at the team. We look at it from various different angles and start to see new team all together.

I pity us...

People don't tell me that I am one of those fans who start making hue and cry no sooner India loses a match. Dude! it's not about losing a match here and their, it's about "consistency","predictability" and "spirit". And all three just never be with the team. Some of these characters flash for a while and then vanish in the darkness of mediocricity..

Harbhajan to be blamed
by Sivakumar Varadharajan on Feb 11, 2007 05:50 PM  Permalink

It was a worst thinking by harbhajan to go for a shot himself when he had dhoni on the other side and required runrate was just run a ball. Indians are really lagging the 'APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE', we will keep loosing matches like this until all our players learn to think

by Govind Raj on Feb 11, 2007 08:17 PM  Permalink
Not from test Cricket. Then India will struggle to win even on home soil. But Kumble has to realize himself, he is not good enough for ODIs. But unfortunately our senior Cricketers blinded by old records forget that Ramesh Powar has done much better than Kumble and Bhajji in the chances he has got. In the last 10 ODIs they have played, Powar got 16 wickets at 26.7. Bhajji has 11 wickets at 32.3 and Kumble has bowled well in only one ODI since his comeback.
I believe our Selectors should stop listening to Dravid and select Powar as first choice spinner.
India will NOT even reach Semi-Final if they stick to the Flop combination of Kumble and Bhajji.
The last time they managed a win in ODIs seems like it was in the 18th Century.

Pls for heavensake do not expect Kumble to contribute each & every time, also umpire shastri turned down number of rightful appeals made by him. this pitch does not aid spin bowling period, 8 wickets were taken by SL fast bowlers and only 1 by spinner. team mgt made mistake of chossing 2 spinners for a pitch that does not offer anny assistance to spin bowlers.

at least, Powar can bat and take match winning wickets for ODI. Powar at the moment is 10 times better than Kumble. Why then put Kumble in the team? I feel that Powar is more reliable and made use of all the chances given to him. He deserves more to be in the World Cup ODI team for India.

Pl do not even dream comparing Powar with Kumble, it's all time, there are number of occassions in the recent past, where Kumble had made more runs than some our leading batsmen then suddenly you go and drop him for almost a year and bring him back, today was not his day period, 1) number of his rightful appeals were not accepted by umpire 2) this pitch you do not require 2 spinners 3) 8 wickets were taken by SL pace bowlers 4) WCI is different ball game, mark my words Kumble will be our main strike bowler in WCI

India Lost
by abhishek gupta on Feb 11, 2007 05:46 PM  Permalink

Well india lost the game. why? only experts can tell. but wat i can asy is, TO MR PANICKER TO GET HIS CRICKETING KNOWLEDGE CHECKED. CRICKT GROUND STANDARD SIZE IS 75 YARDS FROM THE BATSMEN'S WICKET. 'and a ground where the biggest boundary is a mere 80 meters out' IS A RIDICULOUS STATEMENT ID SAY. ''
