Coach, what coach?
by Thayir Saadham on Oct 31, 2006 10:37 AM  Permalink

This is the Aussie definition of "Coach": Anything with wheels that takes you to the ground and back. And this definition was coined by the illustrious elder brother of the current Indian coach. This fervent cry to remove Greg Chappell and all's well with the Indian team is plain nonsense and a stupid rationalisation to avoid facing the plain truth, that we simply are not a great team as the media hype wants us to believe. We are not even a good team, at best an average team that can provide glimpses of brilliance at times - bit like the Kiwis. If you can accept that bitter truth, then all's well. If you still want to take a leaf out of the Aussie coaching manual, then don't pick players to attain the ultimate honour of representing the country, unless and until they have proved their worth in a consistent manner in the domestic circuit and in 'A' teams. And be patient, and put all your unrealistic expectations in suspension for a few years. Imagine you planting coconut saplings - wait 10 years for them to bear fruit.

Bring back Ganguly as Captain
by Narayan on Oct 31, 2006 10:26 AM  Permalink

Bring back Saurav Ganguly as captain. Rahul should be demoted and Yuvraj or Dhoni should be made vice-captain, so that they will play more responsibly.

Get the strategy right... Rahul's fielding placements were stupid to say the least, and Australian batsmen were edging many deliveries to the slip and third man region. If Rahul had spread the slip cordon wider, a couple of catches would have been held.

What happened to Saurave will also happen to Sachin. Sachin should bat down the order and bowl more.

As of now, not even God knows what is wrong with Indian cricket.

Right Selection
by Gohel Kiran on Oct 31, 2006 10:12 AM  Permalink

Hi,

Its my first post.

There should be change in selection process. As some fine young players doesn't get chance in the team. And its because of chappel also, who takes personal things in selecting team. I think ganguly and kumble must be in the team

Why India unable to Win
by Sachin Tyagi on Oct 31, 2006 09:49 AM  Permalink

I have been seeing these matches from my childhood and also enjoyed playing a lot. bowlers bwl evrywhere. Thwy cant extract Bounce, No Slower Deliveries, No yorkers. Just no variation. How can u win the matches bowling at the same pace.

And now cricket is a proffession not a passion.

If u loose match still it wont affect you bcoz u still can make lot of money by advertisments.

6-7 fails and then a half century in next match. then continue for another 6-7 matches.

Even i can bowl on a single line.

Without bowling a single wide in 10 overs.

I dnt knw what they Practice for?

Even rahul is not able to take the singles.

Does boundry helps?

Ya they matter but single doubles dnt matter at all?

its about 180-200 dots in India innings about 66%

When India played their shots i hardly see the vacant ground. every where are fielders are they playing with

15 players.

But when Australia bats it looks like as if all our players went out of ground.

There is a standard practice in setting up the field.

2 slips,1 point,1 cover, 1 mid on,1 mid off, 1 square leg, 2 third man. no fielding strategy for any player.

what does the team management do play kho-kho or what?

How to make india world beaters
by Rohit on Oct 31, 2006 09:37 AM  Permalink

What do we make of Indias performance at Champions Trophy? We had everything in our favour home crowd, conditions that we know inside out, reasonable draw and in spite of that we ended up not making to the semis. Who do we blame for our performance- nobody except us? Its high time that we start taking cricket seriously and stop worrying about off field affairs

Team India is made up all of super stars and relies too heavily on individual performances rather then playing as a unit and worry too much about off field activities. Look at likes of New Zealand and more recently West Indies who may not have so many stars up their ranks but they always strive to do bigger and better. Our stars are more focussed about how to make more money by signing advertising contracts rather then focussing on real thing Playing Cricket. We have always looked up on our cricketers as role models and fanatically supported them all through out but isnt this high time when our so called Heroes could at least repay its supporters by playing some decent cricket.

Moving on we need rethink our strategy and game plan & philosophy and for god sake stop experimenting. We are only a few months away from the world cup and we are still experimenting with our playing 11. I think the board along with the captain and coach need to put the thinking cap on and go back to the drawing board again. May be everything is still not lost for us lets work together and make things happen.

Team India
by rkmurthi on Oct 31, 2006 09:32 AM  Permalink

The caption Team India for the cricket team is a misnomer. Given the way they perform, it would be more appropriate to name them not as a team but as a motley group and far from representing India, they reprsent themselves. It is high time India got over its insane and irrational focus on a game where we are at best mediocre, where wins are but flashes in a pan. Yes the 'wall' has full faith in the team to lose. And boy aren't we good at finding scapegoats to put the blame on. I feverently wish that the media would completely desist from givng more than the normal coverage to this game and concentrate more on the real winners in other games. Our irrationality knows no bounds, when we persist in covering the likes of Sania Mirza and Narain Kartikeyan, who come right at the bottom of their respective lists. People may not be aware that the Aussies, do not get even one tenth of the coverage in Australia as our worthless cricketers get at home. So whats all the fuss about?

Pacers should work hard
by Vinay on Oct 31, 2006 08:26 AM  Permalink

It is long term problem for India that their pace bowlers are not performing. I can say, they are not up to the standard. Pathan is a bowler, who has to work very hard on his bowling. He lost his pace along with ability to swing the ball. He is only giving a nice halfvolleys and slow short balls. He is inviting batsmen to hit him. He relieves pressure on batsmen by giving lot of boundarys in first 15 overs and putting lot of pressure on other bowler and eventually on Dravid.

Indian needs a lethal pace attack. It can be developed. Only thing is guys have work hard on it. Take some 15 potential pace bolwer, including those who are in team to National Pace Academy and ask them to work there hard. They should work there at least a month bofore going to any tournament. Fast bowling is need of our country. Without it we can not win matches. Coach Chappell has to seek advise from Dennis Lillee to make really good fast bowlers. Alternatively, Indian board should appoint a bowling coach for team India.

We all talk about batsmen. Batsmen are not our problem. Once they come to form, they will perform. They need to practice on bouncy and fast pitch in moving conditions.

trash the current team
by gp on Oct 31, 2006 08:25 AM  Permalink

the only way we could beat the world by replacing the current Indian team with a completely new one. No Dravid, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Kaif, pathans....

They all suck. I bet if we keep this team we won't make to Semi-finals in World cup. Write it down.

We choose a new team there is a possiblity to go to semi-finals becuase they won't have any big names or multi crore contracts behind them. They will play just for the country not for records.

How to make India world-beaters?

Three point formula to make us world beaters once again:

1. Buy a 1 way ticket for Mr.Chappel to Australia right away

2. Replace him with Gavaskar and Kapil; with Gavaskar being the batting coach and Kapil the bowling coach.

3. Bring back Ganguly as Indian captain replacing the clueless Dravid.
