Experiments
by Kalidas Sawkar on Oct 31, 2006 02:25 PM  Permalink

Experiments are Ok but the experimenter should realize they are not the ends but means to ends. Indians have too many very perrenial faults, which Greg C. is not addressing; our cultural conservatism, lack of adventure spirit, lack of killing instinct (murders notwithstanding!) and controling the naturally gifted players like Dhoni, Irfan and Sreesanth.
Add to it the predominantly vegetarian diet. This last one keeps away from predominantly field games where strength is utmost important. Take Sania for example: Isn't she fluffy compared to Sharapova and Maurismo and their friends?

Bring Dhoni as opener
by navin on Oct 31, 2006 02:22 PM  Permalink

The composition of the team need to be like this

In order to use this initial power plays extremely bring Dhoni and Sehwag / Gambhir as our openers.

As every one saying No.3 is very important slot bring our little master Tendulkar in that slot.

For strong middle order

Mr. Wall - Dravid, Yuvraj/Laxman, Kaif/Raina

For all rounder slot depending on the pitch conditions Pathan/Mongia.

Pace battery

Agarkar/ Sreesanth

Zaheer

Munaf

Finally for spinner and hitter slot

H. singh/Kumble/Powar

The batting order need to be like this

1. Dhoni

2. Sehwag/Gambhir

3. Tendulkar

4. Dravid

5. Yuvraj/Laxman

6. Kaif/Raina

7. Pathan/Mongia

8. H. singh/Kumble/Powar

9. Agarkar/Sreesanth

10.Zaheer

11.Munaf

Try like this in South Africa.

How can we expect India to win?
by Kiran on Oct 31, 2006 02:22 PM  Permalink

We should not expect India to be world beaters. Yes, they are a strong batting side, better fielding side etc. etc.,But most of all, what they lack is aggresive mindset.which is not what we Indians have.. What coach? What captain??? Nothing..Its the 11 men that have to perform on any given day..It does not happen...We jump up and down when India win..How many occasions can one remember when India have won as a team??? Its just one person, a batsman or a bowler one fine day shines and Indian wins. What Tendulkar? Can anyone give the stats of Tendulkar's runs against Australia in India or Australia when Mcgrath is playing? Its hopeless. Inspite of the fact that we have the so-called "World's Best Batsman" in the name of Sachin Tendulkar, we cannot have a consistent winning team.. Its just hopeless.Coming to the World cup, I can think of only the following players worthwhile in the team. Tendulkar; Dravid; Dhoni; Yuvraj(very hesitatingly); Pathan, Harbhajan. Only6 players.Even these are ordinary..nothing great. So how can one hope that Indians are world beaters..Hey, they are world beaters in one way...Their ads.I dont think other cricket players in the world can boast of so many ads!!

India - world beater???
by Rajesh on Oct 31, 2006 02:21 PM  Permalink

Forget Cricket. Do not day dream. Looking at the current state of affairs we are no where near prepardness to win as of now. BCCI is more interested in making money, politicking, felicitating match fixers of the past, increasing tenures, having confidants at key places, overlooking ICC rules. If someone tries to instill some discipline and professionalism he gets clucthed.

We are not worthy of good cricket.BCCI wants to cut the golden goose and kill cricket

by CHANDRA B CHATTERJEE on Oct 31, 2006 02:20 PM  Permalink

Dear friends,
Here is a simple 5 step recipe for making India the no.1 team in the world:
1) Sack Greg Chappel
2) Make John Buchhanan coach of Indian team
3)Clone all Austrialian cricket players
4)Make them into Indian players
5) Bribe all umpires & match referees

Please let me know your thoughts on this.....

Anything too much is not advisable !
by dr.umesh laddi on Oct 31, 2006 02:18 PM  Permalink

Though experimentation to certain extent is appreciable, too much is too bad (their is a saying - even \"AMRIT\" BECOMES POISON IF YOU HAVE IT IN EXCESS\". Though the experimentation must have paid in earlier cases, lets stop toooooo much experimentation (even the chompions paid for their too much of experiments in the recently concluded Malaysian DLF cup competition.

How to make India world-beaters ?
by Bhaskar S Nair on Oct 31, 2006 02:18 PM  Permalink

Let's begin from the opening position

Sehwag -Needs to be told what exactly is the difference between a good player and a great player. More commitment is required from him when it comes to crunch games.

Tendulkar -He is not able to withstand the pressure from good bowlers of late. He needs to go back to his old aggressive approach especially against oppositions like Australia and South Africa. His record against these two oppositions has not been good of late especially against Lee,McGrath and Shaun Pollock. Needs to be aggressive all the time against these bowlers.

Dinesh Mongia -He should be given chances consistently to prove his mettle. Bowling looks good but still there is scope for improvement in his fielding.

Dravid -Looks really good in his batting. He should try to stay till the end and ask others to do a bit of hammering. He is a captian with bright future. He should communicate with his players especially on the field.

Yuvraj -Bit rusty from last year. Needs to get back to form soon. He is no short on confidence now.

Raina -Should read the situation and play accordingly. He should be given chances up the order.

Dhoni -Develop more on his technique
