Ifran needs to upgrade his skills..
by Muttu on Dec 27, 2006 03:37 AM  Permalink

Yes!! Its 100% a good decession to send him india but this is not the correct time to send...

If they send him after one day international ... or Not selecting him to SA tour and ask him to play in Ranji.. that will be more good ...

Now its the time to send Veeru also...

Every Player will be cautious now.. please send Veeru and Tendulkar also back..

regards

Muttu

Correct move.
by Bharath k on Dec 27, 2006 03:00 AM  Permalink

Pathan is a key player for India in both forms of the game. Our search for Kapil's successor was almost complete. Pathan's loss of confidence and form is a big setback to India's plans for the world cup. At this point, all Pathan has to regain is his confidence. Lets all pray that his stint in domestic circuit helps him regain it.

Good selection committee
by Rajesh Balachadar on Dec 27, 2006 02:46 AM  Permalink

Good action was taken against players who do not perform well. Irrespective of how they were before. Considering how they are now. One kind obligation to the selection committee. Why dont you first take Sewhag out?. Dont you take his statistics for past 10 match?

cricketers sent home?
by senthil kumar on Dec 27, 2006 02:35 AM  Permalink

yep a lot of non-performing so-called stalwarts must be sent home to get more time in the domestics as has been suggested. What's the guarantee that it wont incite effigy burnings, sensationalisations etc., and cause havoc.

It Depends
by Srik on Dec 27, 2006 02:24 AM  Permalink

The outcome of this issue will depend on how it was put across to Pathan. "Its not what you say, but how you say". I hope he was explained that he is being sent as India values his talent a lot. I hope Greg or Dravid explained the issue cleary to him. Pathan is very talented, it would be a tragedy if we lose him early.

No it is not professionalism
by Manish on Dec 27, 2006 12:41 AM  Permalink

Hi!,
Much is being said about the recent move by BCCI, Agreed the non performer should be send back to domestic cricket; but the way it has been done to Pathan is not professional. He should have been told, that since you are not performing you are not going to play the test but there was no need of broadcasting the same in Media, it will shatter his confidence. should have been send back stating that he should play for Ranji since the team combination is good now & there is no chance of his playing in current & next test also. More professionalism should have been shown from BCCI. They cannot break/shatter's confidence of player. Few months back he was hero now he is termed as nonperformer. He had been doing well be bat, though he main job is with Ball.
Must i say the non performeer is Chappel who has made him in this fate. Send Chappel back. Save India.

Yes it is right to send back to any player who is out of form.

But this rule should be applied to all indian player e.g. Sachin, Sehvag, etc Why only Pathan ???...

its a good move
by padmanabhan venkataramani on Dec 27, 2006 12:33 AM  Permalink

After so many years indian selectors are thinking. we should also give chances for fresh people like gambhir, jaffer etc and send back sehwag. If sachin does not improve then we can send sachin back too. Point is sachin can give moral support etc. Those are all fine but players like ponting, sachin, trescothick, gilchrist and lara are expected to perform everytime they go to the field. They get their celebrity status NOT for no reason. They should live up to the expectation or call it quits.

They should know when to leave...Learn everything from australians. If the star does not perform they drop them. If the star performs and thinks he should quit they do so.

Sachin is living with his past reputation. So is Sehwag, agarkar etc...If half of agarkar's chances are given to Balaji, kuruvilla, raju kulkarni and dodda ganesh they would do wonders...but they were all banished...

This zonal nonsense should go off. If agarkar was born in kerala he would have not got a chance like this. one poor performance he will be playing in county a lot.

Given similar chance that sehwag got to hemang badani, S Badri, kaif, yuvraj in tests they can do wonders...not sure if select. think?

Its very Sad for a Player Like Pathans caliber. If someone loses his form he can be tried wice before removing from the Team.As we have seen earlier that Ajit Agarker is in team without any performance since last few years.

There is a factual error in this article. Ajith Agarkar was not given chances just like that. He was India's highest wicket taker in 3 of the 7 ODI series India have played since he made a come back in Zimbabwe. He has taken wickets even while going for runs and his strike rate [number of balls for every wicket]is the best for any Indian bowler barring Pathan.
Agarkar has over 260 wickets in ODIs. He is easily our best fielder in the deep by miles. One of the safest catchers in the history of Indian Cricket. Though his batting has taken a beating in recent years, he still has some fire left in his bowling. He was our best bowler during the last West Indies ODI series. If physically fit, he deserves to be part of Indian ODI team to the WC-07.
He should never be selected to play tests again

Pathan
by advikaa on Dec 27, 2006 12:19 AM  Permalink

It is probably the best thing that could have happened to Pathan given his recent form. There is no dispute that he is the only all-rounder in India with a potential to serve the team for a long, long time. However, his present form, as much as his confidence,is down in the dumps. To restore it, he has to get back to domestic cricket and find his rhythm. Rather than clinging on to the team and warming the benches, it is better that he gets some match practice to regain his form. This way, he will at least give himself a decent chance to be in the scheme of things for the World Cup. We have seen Pathan to be a wonderful competitor in the past. This will be a great test for his resilience. He should take a leaf out of Sourav and Zaheer and back himself.
