It is a favour to Pathan!
by Gajodhar on Dec 27, 2006 06:54 AM  Permalink

He is not selected for 2nd test based on performance. There is no other match between 2nd and third tests, how would you rate his performance then? After this series, selectors would be in the same dilemma when they have to select a team for the coming home series. I think it is a favour to Pathan, they gave him an opportunity to get back in the team!

Right decision
by hari on Dec 27, 2006 06:33 AM  Permalink

It is an apt decision to send back Irfan Pathan who is primarily a bowler and as whom he is woefully out of form and confidence. As India does not need a batsman in Irfan Pathn especially with the comeback of ganguly and Laxman, it will help him a lot if he gets a stint in domestic cricket.
Also it will send a strong message to other non performing'stars' and 'masters'.

Ifran-back to home
by Pradeep on Dec 27, 2006 06:25 AM  Permalink

As we see the whole team was not playing well in the one day matches...then it that case BCCI should decide to withdraw the whole team and ask them to play in domestic matches. I belive its common with the player........

Look at how good Zaheer and Ganguly have come back... Irfan is good and he needs to get his basics correct again... he has the potential and will definitely come back.. Good Luck Pathan.

irfan
by mudit on Dec 27, 2006 06:11 AM  Permalink

Sending back Irfan Pathan is a brave move by the Team India. It is a really a courageous move and should be welcome by one and all.
The best thing the Board did by sending him back is signals other players that they have to perform to stay in team and one should perform duties what is he required to do. A player chosen as a genuine bowler should concentrate on bowling job first and batting should come as secondary and same applies to batsmen.
I really believe this will do no harm to Pathan's confidence. Instead, he should feel good that Board think about him and whatever action is taken ,is only for his betterment.

was it right to send irfan back?
by harinder on Dec 27, 2006 05:14 AM  Permalink

Total blunder and disheartening for a person who is batting even better than their specialists. If we can persist with the likes of sehwag and jaffer then why we can't give him more time and encouagement to find his rythm back.

Look at what Zaheer is doing..
by jay on Dec 27, 2006 04:21 AM  Permalink

Zaheer was dropped after some poor performances. Look at what he has done since then. He's back, and the difference shows. He's hungrier and doesn't take his place in the side 'granted', nobody should.

along the same lines dropping Sehwag for Gambhir might also work.
