Pathan should never be sent back. The one who needed to go back was Sehwag. The reason is that even if Pathan scores 0-10 runs he is at par with Sehwag. Any additional runs after 10th runs are bonus. Secondly by keeping Pathan we are surely having a fronline bowler to attack.
