We needed someone to write some sensible articles here at Rediff. I am glad you finally wrote some Prem on this hot issue. You have been surprisingly mute on this hot issue.
Anyway, these are valid points, but have you wondered how else Rediff can make a differene to Indian cricket?
No one will read and take any action on your wisdom,
A very well written article. I fail to understand why the 6 wise men would not like to face reality. The reality being that either way they have to trip. They have to decide which is the better side to trip on. I am sure that the decision taken by the BCCI committee stems from the fact that they really cannot take a decision. Therefore this compromise formula. I think Politics should go out the window and the Board stand up for Performance. What Greg Chapell is doing is the best thing. Our team has super stars nobody can tell them anything. I think Greg Chapell is the one who will be able to say things and whip the team into a disciplined and ruthless outfit like the Australian Team. Selection in the Indian Team either the One Day or the Test Team should only be on present performance and not past performance. If you look at the ICC Ratings for the One Day matches India ranks 7th but we still consider ourselves to be the 2nd best team in the world. We must wake up from our slumber and face reality in the face by accepting that the Sri Lankan's, Pakistanis and many other teams are better than ours. There are a lot of things that need to be done strategically as well as in the mind.
Ganguly is great and the only one who can eliminate all kind of differences in the team. He did it previously when he was given the captaincy. Even now he is the Indian who can bring the Indian team together. He is a true Indian and has his focus on playing for India.
He may be Prince of Calcutta but more than that he is Maharaja of Indian Hearts.
Ganguly can not only be a captain of the side but also he can act as a coach. Indian team may need a physio but not a coach as long as Ganguly Captains the Team.
Dont try to criticize everyone with those blunt words. The selectors or the six men are not fools making the decissions. You should write an article that is readable and you should not write for the sake of writing it. You should not write articles for Publicity write truth with Simplicity.

he may be prince for u calcuttans..thats what ur cricketing standards are..but for the rest of india he is just an @@@@@
Amazing how a bunch of incompetent jokers ordain themselves the stewards of national pride and toss around the future of our cricket to their own whims and fancies !
All I hope for is the team stays together - wishful thinking I know - and plays well (forget winning for a while - that shouldnt be too difficult).
This is getting interesting. Now, if Chappell has lied then why does the BCCI let him scotfree? The outcoem was, as expected, nothing. How can they both work together now? If Chappell has made false accusations (Mind you, Sourav is more than a Bollywood HERO), he cannot dare to continue coachign the team and do his duties to their entirity. He wouldn't be left so easy.
There's something on the other side of the coin, which is Chappell has not lied. If he has not lied, then do we live with the saem CAPTAIN, who sets teh best example for his team mates (pls forget Lakshmans and Kaifs going to Chappell). Also forget Sourav trying to meddle with the other middle-order batsmen and trying to evade pace bowlers, keep away from practice. Please, please, please.... do it. Just forget it. Chappell has not lied though.
With all the features of our captain (without any divide and rule policies), we march ahead to WIN the 2007 world Cup. Great Spirit guys. Who's the scape goat? Cricket Fans and the Media persons? How foolish? Forget the money which is going from our pockets.
Will ever the BCCI take on a modern and practical face/approach?
I thought it was a very good article .As a coach Chappell, like typical Australian seems to have given an honest feedback to his captain. He must realize that he is coach of Indian team where performance and talent is not the creterion for playing but its stardom and politics which seems to work.Lets look at the whole issue in a more objective way.Just before the recent Ashes tour Graham Thorpe was dropped from the English team and he subsequently retired from test cricket. After the conclusion of Ashes four players from Australian team were dropped.None of these players made a big fuss about it nor did it become a contraversy. My question is,In what way is Sourav Ganguly different from these players? Is it a crime for the coach to tell one of his players that he needs to improve or step down?.It is well known fact that Ganguly is out of form and has failed to motivate the team.Loosing 14 finals out of 16 is not reflection of great captaincy!!.Ganguly has acted in a very disgraceful manner by setting up his teammates against one other and against the coach.Todays decision by BCCI is a joke and goes to show the depth of politics in indian cricket.Sadly Indian cricket is the looser!!
