good job!
by rohit on Sep 28, 2005 10:21 AM  Permalink

The author has got the issue bang on target. Its an open secret that the 'patch up' was devised to hide Ganguly's faults. The top guys of BCCI don't have the nerve to take bold decisions like expelling a player of Ganguly's stature from the team.Neither they could prove Chappell wrong. Patch up was the only way out.

A fair trial would have definitely seen Ganguly out of the team.

Is Chappell a liar, Mr Mahendra?
by Raghunath_ry on Sep 28, 2005 10:21 AM  Permalink

NO,

How can you say that, can you expect postitive results, when a bunch of Jokers (Dalmia, Ravi Shastri, etc.) are in the panel. Mr. Chappel became a mere Carter in the big show. It was settled much before and all that took place yesterday was is an eye washer. When you have so many distuinguished former captains, why always these three people are invited for the panel. OK with due respects to Mr. Gavaskar & Mr. S. Venkataraghvan for thier rich experience in the game they should be invited. What is the contribution of Mr. Shastri an other spoiler of the game in his days. The Two (Dalmia & Ganguly) has much more energy left in them to spoil the traditional sport of the country for their cheap gains. You will see the deterioration of the game in the years to come if people like ... hold top places. Its a shame for Indian Cricket to have people like them. Lets Pray god for the better in future.

This is ridiculous
by Sunay Mukerjee on Sep 28, 2005 10:18 AM  Permalink

It is ridiculous that a site like 'rediff' can publish an article which is so biased as this one.

It seems that our dear Mr. Panicker is keen to believe that yes Sourave Ganguly lies and feigns injury, but is not willing to believe that the communication received from Chappel was miscommunicated (firmly believe media and people like Mr. Panicker himself, responsible for the same) even though the team physio had gone to the extent of saying that allegations against Ganguly was baseless.

It is really sad to see petty minded people like this hold important position and try and relate their biased and not helpful views to the rest of the country.

Team India beyond revival
by AMRIT on Sep 28, 2005 10:17 AM  Permalink

As was predicted by Mr. Prem Panicker the so-called six wise men did nothing. The kiss and make up episode is bound to collapse. It is obvious with a Captain who does not have scent respect for team discipline and considers captaincy to be his fiefdom (thanks to the men in the board and outside encouraging him for such arrogance) and does not realize his dismal form with the bat or on the field for over a year. It is pity that Coach Greg Chappell had to eat humble pea (almost) over his e-mail as the Board gave a clean chit the captain.

Now, what we have after yesterdays patch up? A Coach talented enough but his power circumscribed drastically and role unspecified followed by a captain uncontrollable by the Coach (may be even BCCI) virtually authorized to run the team as per his whims and fancy. It can be said we now have a tiger in the cage and a paper tiger (Bengal Tiger?) running around the field and glorifying the Indian Cricket.

May God save the Team India?

AMRIT

Chappel a liar
by PRANAB on Sep 28, 2005 10:17 AM  Permalink

This commentator is biased. His arguments is not objective.Just because Ganguly is not sacked as demanded by Dungarpur,he feels sad.Had Dungarpur been there in powerful position at BCCI,India would not have got its most successful captain.Chappell took too short a time to judge Ganguly.India cannot win world cup based on laptop calculation of Chappell. He was not a successful manager in Australia either, although a great cricketer.Let us be impartial and give Ganguly one more chance.Ganguly cannot expected to do whatever Coach says as he does possess a thinking & strategic bent of mind.

Ganguly/Chappel
by Usha on Sep 28, 2005 10:14 AM  Permalink

There are many more better things to than wasting time over who is right and who is wrong. There are many many young guys aspiring to be a part of the Indian Cricket Team. I suggest just throw Ganguly out of the team who is consistentantly not performing and let the youngsters get a chance.

Thanks

Usha

What is new & where does all this leave Chappell now?
by RAHUL MENON on Sep 28, 2005 10:12 AM  Permalink

The most laughable decisions were taken by the 'powers of Indian cricket'during the much hyped about commitee meeting yesterday.

Chappell was reduced to a liar in front of the whole nation and he had nothing to say!!! The poor guy had the best interests of Indian cricket in his intentions and he has been reprimanded to save a captain from being thrown out!

Chappell will be a much wiser man now and will ensure that he keeps his mouth shut and ensures that the captain has his say.Or will he?

Working together or teamwork means individual committment to a common task. That is what national teams are expected to do!So what is Mr.Mahendra saying that is new?

The coming months will be worth watching to see what this ridiculous compromise has done for Team India.

Is Greg Chappell a liar, Mr Mahendra?
by Kuldeep Singh on Sep 28, 2005 10:12 AM  Permalink

I could not agree with Prem Panicker more. The BCCI body is a bunch of jokers. Can't the goverment step in and stop these people running their own power games?

I am afraid worse is yet to come, Ganguly has to go! There will be toom much pressue on him to perform.

Hats off to Paniker!
by UMASUTARAO C on Sep 28, 2005 10:11 AM  Permalink

Dear Prem jee,

A wonderful article giving the true picture of what has happened.

I t is a slap on the face of the Cricketing loving public that few "dadas" in BCCI could go to any extent to retain their "intrests" even at the cost of Crickt in this country. Let they not be over jealous, lest they may kill the "the goose laying golden eggs"! It is surprising as to how one individual Dalmiya can have his way by hook or crook!

It is a Shame that this could happen to Indian Cricket!
