1 Pathan vs 11
by Manosij on Dec 29, 2005 12:38 PM  Permalink

And I suppose we are supposed to take advice from a Paki on one of our best batsmen (and greatest captain ever) and our most promising younster?

What next, suggestions on Brahmos?

(We have just one Pathan you can't beat him with eleven?)

India touring Pak.
by Srinath JD on Dec 29, 2005 11:36 AM  Permalink

Picking SG for the tour was certainly a timid work by the selectors. But then I only wish that the Indians deliver the goods at the right time, be it the bowlers or the batsmen.

Ganguly's return
by sgd on Dec 29, 2005 08:54 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Indeed a bad choice along with Parthiv Patel and Ajit Agarkar. I am not too sure what Tendulkar's doing in that lineup either. A better pick would have been the following 16: Khan,Pathan,Balaji,RP Singh,Harbhajan,Kumble,Yuvraj,Kaif,Laxman,Dravid,Dhoni,Kartik,Sehwag,Chopra,Gambhir,Jaffer

Tendulkar & Ganguly deserve a farewell tour but let's not do so at the team's performance.

RE:Ganguly's return
by BHARAT SATISH TALWAR on Jan 04, 2006 03:31 PM  Permalink
I fully back Dr.Skand's reply to Sandeeps views. The selction of Ganguly specially sacrificing the services of Kaif is a suicidal decision. Ganguly can never compete with Kaif at any place as per his present form Even when he was in full form he had been the hopeless fielder. Just to be vocal and showing off that you can fight for your players does not make you a good team man. Further it would a wise step for us to just forget about Ganguly. The history would say the selectors would themselves repent about their decisions and would follow Mohd. Tuglaq. Ganguly has been given a big weightage by every body now. whether it is because of his talent of . . . . God knows.
Regards,
bst

Picking Saurav is a step back
by Sandip on Dec 29, 2005 05:53 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Waqar Younis says, "India needs to think like the Australian selection Committee". My dear Waqar, if Indian would be able to think like the Australians, than Australia would be number 2 and we would have been number 1. Also, I think putting Ganguly in a team is a lot beneficial to the Indian side. Consider the experienced Indian team and the not-so experienced Pakistani team. Indians with Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly, Sehwag, Kumble, Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, and Zaheer Khan mark the calander of the experienced players and experienced youngsters in the team who all have played some astonishing Cricket against Pakistan. Pakistan just has Inzi, Mohd. Yusuf, Younis Khan, Afridi and Akhtar to back up the list of experiency. So, the question does not arise of Waqar telling "Ganguly selection was a set back". What India needs in Pakistan is some experienced players who can perform in any sort of pitches against any bowlers like Shoaib and Sami and are capable of scoring runs, getting wickets, and fielding well as well. I think India should put in all the experience "the reason why saurav is been selected" against the Pakistanis in the forthcoming series which will help. Thanks

my dear sandip,
yes it is true that waqar must probably mind his business. but i am amazed at your wonderful knowledge of cricket, both current and past. really how much of it do u follow ? and u say that ganguly's 'experience' will be useful? the only experience that he has is how not to play the short ball, how not to run in the field and so on. just look at him when the rest of the team is around...looks like a damn mortuary!! pls refresh yourself, and for heavens sake look objectively instead of fanatically defending a guy who has become so pathetic of late! i am sure u have a very short memory but u choose it to be long when u so wish! toronto???that was almost 7 years ago man! and if u think ganguly currently is what he was then, you need to get your head examined! how long do u want such people to be in the team for 'experience'? till deserving youngsters like yuvraj become grandfathers?? maybe,we should call back polly umrigar, gaekwad, gavaskar and kapil dev too. then we will have all the experience we need in pakistan! and remember it was dravid that won the series for us last time round with ganguly making a last ditch appearance to save himself from the axe!!

PAK going Australia way
by Ashish on Dec 29, 2005 04:56 AM  Permalink

All of a sudden u see the PAK cricketers getting bothored bout indian team...well....following australian strategy of putting pressure on the opponent with words before the start of the series...why not waqar takes care of his team.....who have lost twice in two years now....BOY it was a clean sweep..........PAK was clean sweeeped in its own place.......how can they forget that so easily.....and India is getting better day by day....bothered about Sourav....not to forget he is the same guy who has won us matches in the past.....how can they forget Toronto series where they were crushed by Sourav's bowling n not batting:-)
so PAKIS be careful.........we r coming!!

Ah! Younis!
by Souvik Dutta on Dec 29, 2005 01:59 AM  Permalink

He sure has not forgotten the battering he took at Bangalore against India in the semi-finals to the world cup in 1999. Mr. Younis, you should 'truely' retire.

Waqar Shut up!!!!!!
by Peter Pires on Dec 29, 2005 12:33 AM  Permalink

Will somebody please tell Waqar Younis to mind his own business(if he has one) or spend his words and energy on the Pakistan team. The same team from which he was prematurely retired. Neither Ganguly nor India need his expertise. It is with great difficulty that sanity has prevailed in the selection process. And we would like it remain that way. I for one would surely look forward to what Waqar will have to say when entire tour of Pakistan will be over. Because not only Is India going to win the series, but Ganguly will contribute to it in a big way.

Selecting Ganguli is suicidal for India
by rajiv on Dec 28, 2005 09:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Ganguli is the worst batsman of India in 2005.

His test avg is 24 and odi avg = 18 in about 23 innings he has played for India in 2005 - in tests and odis.

He has hurt us very badly by his poor performance and we have lots of batsmen better than him.

Please Ganguli forgive us and give us a break.
